Astronomers Identify Ancient Barred Spiral Galaxy
Researchers have discovered COSMOS-74706, a barred spiral galaxy that existed approximately 11.5 billion years ago. This discovery provides new insights into the formation of galaxies in the early universe.
The findings were announced at the American Astronomical Society 247th Meeting. The research involved the use of the James Webb Space Telescope and the Keck I telescope, with contributions from Daniel Ivanov of the University of Pittsburgh.
