Actor Timothy Busfield Detained Without Bond Amid Child Sex Abuse Allegations

Summary

Emmy-winning actor Timothy Busfield remains in custody without bond following allegations of child sexual abuse on the set of 'The Cleaning Lady.'

Emmy Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield has been ordered to remain in custody without bond as he faces charges of child sexual abuse in New Mexico.

Busfield, known for his roles in "The West Wing" and "Thirtysomething," turned himself in to Albuquerque authorities on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.

The allegations involve two boys who reported that Busfield inappropriately touched them on the set of the TV series "The Cleaning Lady," which he was directing. The incidents allegedly occurred between 2022 and 2024.

During a court appearance on Wednesday, Busfield did not enter a plea. Judge Felicia Blea-Rivera ordered him to remain detained without bond pending a hearing within five business days.

Prosecutors have also detailed a new allegation involving a 16-year-old girl in California, who reported that Busfield kissed her and touched her inappropriately several years ago. Busfield has not been criminally charged in relation to this allegation.

Busfield has denied the allegations, suggesting that the boys' mother was retaliating over a casting issue. His attorney, Stanton "Larry" Stein, stated that Busfield "is innocent and is determined to clear his name," adding that "the claims" against him are "completely false."

Warner Bros., the studio that co-produced "The Cleaning Lady," conducted an independent investigation into the complaints but did not find evidence to corroborate the allegations.

Busfield is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, who has expressed support for her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time.
