Federal Immigration Officers Fatally Shoot Man in Minneapolis Amid Ongoing Crackdown

Summary

A 37-year-old man was shot and killed by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis, marking the third such incident in the city this month.

A 37-year-old man was fatally shot by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis on Saturday morning, marking the third such incident in the city this month. The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. on the city's South Side during a targeted operation by federal law enforcement.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the operation aimed to apprehend an undocumented individual wanted for violent assault. During the operation, another individual approached the officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. DHS stated that the officers attempted to disarm the suspect, who violently resisted, leading an officer to fire defensive shots. The agency did not publicly identify the deceased man.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara later identified the victim as a 37-year-old white male U.S. citizen and city resident. O'Hara noted that the man had no significant criminal history, aside from traffic violations, and was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. He was shot multiple times, possibly by more than one federal officer, and was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.

This incident follows two other shootings involving federal immigration officers in Minneapolis this month. On January 7, 37-year-old Renee Macklin Good was fatally shot in her SUV, and on January 14, Venezuelan national Julio Cesar Sosa-Celia was shot in the leg during an altercation with immigration officials.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the latest shooting, stating, "Minnesota has had it. This is sickening." He reported speaking with White House officials and called on President Trump to end the immigration operation immediately.

The incident is under investigation, and authorities have urged the public to avoid the area. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
