ICE Agent Involved in Fatal Minneapolis Shooting Previously Injured in June Incident

Summary

The ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis had been injured in a similar incident in June 2025, where he was dragged by a vehicle during an arrest attempt.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026, had previously been injured in a similar incident in June 2025. Court records indicate that the agent, identified as Jonathan Ross, was dragged by a vehicle during an arrest attempt in Bloomington, Minnesota.

In the June 2025 incident, Ross and other federal agents were attempting to apprehend Roberto Carlos Muñoz, a Guatemalan national with a prior conviction for sexually assaulting a minor. When Muñoz refused to exit his vehicle, Ross broke a rear window and reached inside to unlock the door. Muñoz then accelerated, dragging Ross approximately 100 yards. Ross sustained significant injuries, including a deep gash on his right arm requiring over 50 stitches, and abrasions on his knee, elbow, and face.

Ross has been with ICE in Minnesota since at least 2017 and is a member of the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Special Response Team, a tactical unit within ICE. Prior to his tenure with ICE, Ross served in the Indiana National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2004.

The fatal shooting of Renee Good has sparked public outcry and protests in Minneapolis. Federal officials claim the agent acted in self-defense, alleging that Good attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon. However, video footage and witness accounts have raised questions about this narrative. Local officials, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have expressed skepticism, with Frey stating, "Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullshit."

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was initially involved in the investigation but withdrew after the U.S. Attorney's Office removed the BCA from the case. The BCA stated that without complete access to evidence and information, it could not meet the investigative standards required by Minnesota law.

The incident has intensified debates over federal immigration enforcement practices and the use of force by ICE agents. Community members and activists continue to call for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
