Amazon to Lay Off Up to 30,000 Corporate Employees Amid AI Integration
Amazon plans to reduce its corporate workforce by up to 30,000 employees, approximately 10% of its corporate staff, as part of cost-cutting measures and increased AI integration.
Amazon is set to lay off up to 30,000 corporate employees, representing nearly 10% of its corporate workforce, in a move to reduce expenses and adjust for overhiring during the pandemic. The layoffs are expected to begin as early as Tuesday and will affect multiple divisions, including human resources, devices and services, operations, and Amazon Web Services.
"We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs," said CEO Andy Jassy in June, highlighting the company's shift towards AI-driven efficiencies.
This reduction follows previous layoffs totaling 27,000 employees since late 2022. Amazon's total workforce stood at 1.56 million as of March, with approximately 350,000 in corporate roles. The company is scheduled to report its latest quarterly earnings on Thursday.
