Perez Hilton enters residential treatment after livestream self-harm

Résumé

Five weeks after a livestream showing self-harm, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has been placed in a residential treatment program, his family announced.

Perez Hilton, the Miami-based internet personality, has been admitted to a residential treatment facility following a self-harm incident that was streamed live on TikTok on Aug. 4. The family said he will remain in the program for several weeks and will have limited access to phones or computers.

"This was an important next step, but there’s still a long road ahead," the family said in a statement.

"Perez is alive, he’s getting help, and he’s surrounded by people who want to see him healthy and happy again," the statement added.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department responded to his home after viewers reported the livestream, which showed Hilton with visible cuts and a knife. The video was removed by TikTok shortly after it was posted. Hilton’s three children are being cared for by their grandmother in Miami.

The family expressed gratitude for supportive messages and asked the public to stop spreading unverified rumors about his condition.

"We are incredibly grateful for the continued outpouring of love, kindness, and well wishes for Perez and his children. Every thoughtful message has been appreciated," the statement read.

"Perez has spent years acknowledging, apologizing for, and genuinely trying to grow from the things he said and did earlier in his career. The internet has a way of preserving old versions of people, even when the person behind them has changed. No one has to forget his past or accept his apologies. But we hope we can all agree that celebrating someone’s suicide attempt crosses a line," the family added.
