Hulu star Mikayla Matthews quits 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' over abuse allegations

Mikayla Matthews, known for her role on Hulu's reality series "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives," posted on Instagram that she will not return for the upcoming season. She said the decision was made after learning of new developments related to a co-star's alleged abusive behavior, which she said conflicted with her personal values.

"I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment," Matthews wrote. "There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. Continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical."

The co-star in question, Taylor Frankie Paul, has faced domestic-violence allegations from her ex-partner, Dakota Mortensen, including a resurfaced video showing physical assault. Production of the series was paused during the previous season amid the allegations, and legal proceedings continue.

Matthews added that she believes the show's continued focus on the family’s private struggles harms the children involved and undermines accountability. She expressed gratitude for the platform the series provided but emphasized that supporting an adult does not mean excusing toxic behavior.

"Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change," she said.

Hulu has indicated it will proceed with the series without Matthews, retaining Paul among the cast.
