Vikings uncertain about Kyler Murray's availability for Week 2 after concussion
The Minnesota Vikings have not confirmed whether quarterback Kyler Murray will clear concussion protocol in time for their Week 2 matchup against the Chicago Bears, leaving Carson Wentz as the likely backup.
Kyler Murray suffered a concussion in the first quarter of the Vikings' season-opening game after a hit by Packers defender Javon Bullard and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. The team said he will miss at least the next week, leaving uncertainty over his status for the Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears.
Carson Wentz took over at quarterback and completed two drives before punting, while rookie J.J. McCarthy, who missed the game with an ankle issue, remains the third-string option. Coach Kevin O'Connell indicated that backup quarterback decisions will be made on a week-to-week basis.
"This gives us the best chance to win this Sunday," said Vikings spokesperson KOC.
"In my opinion, [Kyler] has got the skill set and the abilities… to start building a comfort level with the system and the guys," O'Connell added.
The Vikings' defense forced turnovers that helped the team rally from a 12-point deficit, and wide receiver Justin Jefferson highlighted the need for continued work despite a strong performance in practice.
The injury leaves the Vikings' quarterback depth chart unsettled as they prepare to face a Bears defense that allowed 37 points in its previous game.
