iPhone Duo and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Compared Across Design, Durability and Specs

CNET’s comparison of Apple’s iPhone Duo with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 highlights several key differences. Both phones use a passport-style aspect ratio, but the Fold 8 is slightly thinner when folded and unfolded, and the two models are priced about $100 apart, at $1,900 for the Fold 8 and $1,999 for the Duo.

The Fold 8 carries an IP48 rating, offering full waterproof protection but only limited dust resistance for particles larger than a grain of sand. In contrast, the iPhone Duo is rated as fully waterproof and dustproof.

Camera specifications are similar, with the Duo featuring 48 MP main and ultrawide sensors and the Fold 8 using 50 MP units. Neither device includes a telephoto lens. For selfies, the Fold 8 has a 10 MP camera on the outer display and another 10 MP sensor on the inner screen, while the Duo offers a 12 MP outer camera and an undisclosed inner camera that supports up to 1080p video.

Battery capacity for the Duo has not been disclosed, though Apple states it can last up to 24 hours under typical use. The Fold 8 advertises faster wired charging, reaching 73 % in 30 minutes, whereas the Duo reaches about 50 % in the same period. Apple’s Duo supports MagSafe wireless charging, while the Fold 8 lacks the magnets required for Qi2 wireless charging.

"In practice, most people prefer to stay within their existing ecosystem, whether Apple or Android, and cross-platform comparisons matter mainly when one device is compelling enough to prompt a switch," a 9to5Mac analyst noted.

The analysis suggests that durability concerns and price may influence consumer decisions, especially given the Fold 8’s history of dust-related issues and its slightly lower price point.
