Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray exits game with concussion after first-quarter hit

Resumen

Kyler Murray was diagnosed with a concussion and left the game early Sunday after a collision with Green Bay Packers defenders, and backup Carson Wentz finished the contest for Minnesota.

Kyler Murray, the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback, was ruled out of Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers after sustaining a concussion in the first quarter. The injury occurred on a third-and-7 scramble when Packers defenders Lukas Van Ness and Javon Bullard made contact as Murray attempted to slide, causing his helmet to come off. Murray remained on the field briefly before walking off under his own power and heading to the locker room.

Carson Wentz replaced Murray at quarterback for the remainder of the game, with rookie J.J. McCarthy listed as the emergency third option. Bullard received a penalty for unnecessary roughness on the play, which officials said extended the Vikings' drive. Murray’s concussion marked his eleventh snap in his debut with Minnesota before he exited.

"We’re focused on getting Kyler the proper care and following protocol," a Vikings spokesperson said.

The incident left the Vikings relying on Wentz to guide the offense for the rest of the contest at U.S. Bank Stadium.
