Security personnel intercept trespasser at Kamala Harris' Malibu residence

Summary

Los Angeles County deputies and private security stopped an individual who entered Kamala Harris' Malibu property on Friday night, and the trespasser left without incident.

Security staff and Los Angeles County deputies intervened after a call reported a suspicious person on Kamala Harris' Malibu property around 10:30 p.m. on Friday. The individual was warned by deputies to leave and complied voluntarily, according to sheriff's department spokesperson Julia Ann Tafoya. Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not present at the time, spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said, adding that they appreciated the prompt response of security and law-enforcement personnel. Deputies filed a trespassing report and said patrols around the area will be increased as a precaution. Harris does not have a Secret Service detail; her protection, which had been extended beyond the standard six-month post-vice-presidential period, was terminated earlier this year. The incident occurs amid broader concerns about political violence in the United States.
