Josh Furlong ranks Texas No. 1 in AP Top 25 after Week 2 results

Résumé

College football analyst Josh Furlong submitted his AP Top 25 ballot, placing Texas at the top and listing LSU, Notre Dame and Miami among the leading teams after two weeks of play.

College football analyst Josh Furlong submitted his ballot for the Associated Press Top 25 poll, which will be incorporated into the consensus rankings released Sunday. He placed Texas at No. 1, noting the Longhorns secured a win despite a late-game comeback by Ohio State. LSU moved to No. 2 after a second-half rally lifted them past Louisiana Tech. Notre Dame was ranked third following a 52-0 victory over Rice, while Miami occupied the fourth spot after a dominant win over Florida A&M. Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama completed the top ten, each cited for recent performances against lower-tier opponents. Furlong also listed several additional programs under consideration, including Auburn, Florida and Washington.

"I'm rewarding a win over my previous No. 1 team this week," Furlong said of Texas.

"Consistency will be key for LSU, but they've shown they can flip a switch when needed," he added regarding the Tigers.

"If anything, it's a good, consistent showing against a lesser opponent after a win over Wisconsin last week," he commented on Notre Dame.

"Florida A&M never stood a chance in a 70-point loss," he wrote about Miami.

"Kirby Smart isn't starting slow this season," he observed about Georgia.

"The Buckeyes still feature one of the best teams out there, but the decision-making left much to be desired Saturday night," he noted on Ohio State.

"Alabama flexed its muscle in the second half to leave no doubt," he concluded on the Crimson Tide.
