Pink defends criticism of Macklemore's Gaza-related remarks at Ed Sheeran concert

Résumé

Singer Pink said her objection was to Macklemore's anti-Israel comments made during his opening set for Ed Sheeran, emphasizing her Jewish identity and calling for respect for all civilians.

Singer Pink responded to criticism after reposting a video that condemned rapper Macklemore’s remarks about Israel made during his opening performance for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 4-5. Macklemore had called for a “Free Palestine” rally and displayed footage of the Gaza war, prompting the Stop Antisemitism group to call for his removal from the tour.

In an Instagram statement, Pink said she was born Jewish and clarified her stance on the conflict, noting that she considers Hamas a terrorist organization and believes Palestinians deserve a future that respects their humanity. She said her issue was not with the phrase “Free Palestine” but with Macklemore’s presentation, which she described as “scary” for Jewish audience members.

“I have never asked for another artist to be silenced and I’m not asking now,” she wrote, adding that she does not seek Macklemore’s dismissal or refunds for concertgoers.

Pink referenced her history of political activism, citing past songs that addressed the Iraq war, and said she would continue speaking out for her community despite feeling isolated. Macklemore defended his remarks on Instagram, stating that advocating for equal treatment of all humans should not be controversial. The Israeli-American Council has launched a petition to remove Macklemore from upcoming stadium dates on the tour.
