Falcons expect Cooper Rush to start despite back spasms
Atlanta's quarterback depth has narrowed as Cooper Rush deals with back spasms but remains slated to start against Pittsburgh, while Michael Penix remains out and rookie Jack Strand is the only other option.
Atlanta announced on Saturday that quarterback Cooper Rush is experiencing back spasms but is still expected to start the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rush was named the Week 1 starter after Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined with an oblique injury sustained in practice.
Michael Penix remains unavailable as he continues rehabilitation from a torn ACL suffered last season, leaving undrafted rookie Jack Strand as the sole additional quarterback on the roster.
In related moves, the Falcons promoted linebacker Bralen Trice and tight end Nick Muse from the practice squad, while offensive tackle Cameron Williams was placed on injured reserve.
