Ukrainian authorities have arrested a suspect in the assassination of former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, who was shot dead in Lviv on August 30, 2025. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the arrest, stating that the suspect has provided an initial testimony, and urgent investigative actions are underway to establish all circumstances of the murder.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the suspect was apprehended in the Khmelnytskyi region of western Ukraine. He noted that the crime was carefully planned, with the victim's movements studied, a route mapped out, and an escape plan devised.

Parubiy, 54, served as parliamentary speaker from April 2016 to August 2019 and was a prominent figure in the 2013–2014 pro-European Union protests.

Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi indicated that the suspect disguised himself as a courier, opened fire on Parubiy in broad daylight, and ensured the victim was dead before fleeing.
