Rams' Myles Garrett admits poor debut amid knee injury

Résumé

Defensive end Myles Garrett said his first game with the Los Angeles Rams was his worst performance, citing a lingering knee injury after the team’s 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Los Angeles defensive end Myles Garrett described his first appearance for the Rams as the "worst version of myself" after the team fell 27-7 to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne. Garrett recorded no tackles, sacks or quarterback hits, marking only the fourth time in his career he has finished a game without any of those statistics. He played 40 snaps split between the right and left sides of the line but was unable to pressure quarterback Brock Purdy beyond three hurries.

"I've got to be better. I've got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be, and I've shown that I've been before," Garrett said.

Garrett attributed the subpar effort to a knee injury that persisted from training camp, noting that he was more focused on his own health than on the team's needs during the game.

"When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and that showed. I wasn't who I needed to be for my team," he added.

The Rams have 11 days before their Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, giving Garrett time to recover.
