Stephen Colbert to Appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Following Late Show Cancellation

Stephen Colbert is scheduled to appear as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when the program broadcasts from Brooklyn next week. The episode will air on Tuesday, Sept. 15, a day after both hosts are expected to be nominees at the Emmy Awards.

Jimmy Kimmel indicated that Colbert could sit in either the guest seats or at the host’s desk, inviting viewers to watch the segment. The invitation follows CBS’s announcement on July 18, 2025, that The Late Show would not be renewed beyond its eleventh season, a decision described by the network as financially driven.

Colbert, who led The Late Show for 11 seasons, and Kimmel have publicly expressed mutual support during recent network disputes. Both hosts have appeared on each other’s programs and have advocated for one another’s Emmy nominations. The two shows join Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show and Saturday Night Live in the Outstanding Variety Series category.

"I think we can all agree that Jimmy Kimmel deserves an Emmy," Colbert said in an Instagram video. "Please consider thinking that Jimmy deserves an Emmy. I do."

Colbert’s appearance will be his first late-night television slot since the cancellation of The Late Show.
