Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models show 21% performance gain in Geekbench tests

Résumé

Benchmark results for the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max indicate a 21-23% improvement over the previous generation, while the devices run on the A20 Pro chip built on a 2 nm process.

Apple released the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both equipped with the A20 Pro processor and 12 GB of RAM. Preliminary Geekbench 6.7 scores from prototype units identified as iPhone 19,2 and iPhone 19,3 show single-core results of 4,719 and 4,612, and multi-core results of 12,677 and 11,819. Averaging these figures yields roughly 4,665 for single-core and 12,248 for multi-core performance, representing a 21-23% increase compared with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

The A20 Pro chip can reach a clock speed of up to 4.93 GHz and is manufactured on a 2 nm process, which Apple says improves power efficiency. The devices ship with iOS 27, scheduled for release on 14 September.

For comparison, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 achieved a single-core score of 4,139 and a multi-core score of 13,285 in the same benchmark, surpassing the A20 Pro in multi-core performance but lagging in single-core. Results for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 have also been reported, though they use different benchmark versions and are considered less reliable. Analysts caution that all figures are based on prototype hardware and should be interpreted carefully.
