Nebraska prepares to host Bowling Green in week two after opening-week win over Ohio

Résumé

Nebraska will face Bowling Green at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, looking to improve after a narrow victory over Ohio, while the Falcons seek to rebound from a season-opening loss.

Nebraska (1-0) is set to host Bowling Ground (0-1) at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 12, with kickoff at 6 p.m. CDT on FS1. The Cornhuskers entered the season with a 14-13 halftime lead against Ohio before pulling away in the final 30 minutes, outscoring the Bobcats 35-8 and finishing with a 49-21 win. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea completed 18 of 32 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns, adding a rushing score, while true freshman Jamal Rule contributed 122 rushing yards, two touchdowns and a 24-yard receiving touchdown.

Head coach Matt Rhule said the team will focus on correcting early-game mistakes as it prepares for the Falcons. > "We need to tighten up the secondary and protect the ball better," Rhule said after the Ohio game.

Bowling Ground, led by second-year head coach Eddie George, comes into the matchup after a 20-13 loss to Tarleton State. The Falcons' new quarterback, junior Jay Kastantin, threw for 262 yards and completed 24 of 30 attempts in that game and is expected to lead a more pass-heavy approach against Nebraska. The team returns several starters on defense, including senior defensive end Myles Bradley and free safety Kal-El Pascal, while senior tight end Jeremiah Scoby led the Falcons with ten catches in the opener.

Nebraska is favored by more than 30 points, and analysts anticipate a strong performance from running back Jamal Rule, who has been a key contributor in the Huskers' offense.
