Paramount+ to launch "Avatar: Seven Havens" with three episodes weekly starting Oct. 9

Résumé

The new "Avatar" series will debut on Paramount+ on Oct. 9, releasing three episodes each Friday through Oct. 30, with a second season already ordered.

Paramount+ confirmed that the first season of "Avatar: Seven Havens" will premiere on Oct. 9 with three episodes, followed by three new episodes each Friday until Oct. 30. The streaming service has also greenlit a 13-episode second season, though its launch date remains pending.

The series, set after a cataclysmic event, follows Earthbender Pavi, who discovers she is the new Avatar. The storyline positions her as a figure feared by both humans and spirits, prompting her and her twin Nisha to uncover their origins and protect the remaining strongholds known as the Seven Havens.

The voice cast includes Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha, and several other actors such as Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker. The show is created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who also serve as executive producers through Avatar Studios, alongside Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi.

"The concept and even the word ‘avatar’ all come from Indian culture and tradition and Sanskrit," co-creator Bryan Konietzko told Variety. "We’re obviously inspired by and draw from a lot of real world cultures for our fantasy world. But that said, I kind of felt like with the first two series, we had underserved that inspiration, and so it was very deliberate with Seven Havens to code Pavi as a South Asian-inspired character."

A new trailer for the series has been released, offering a glimpse of the post-apocalyptic setting and the characters' quest to save the dwindling havens of civilization.
