Seahawks defeat Patriots 13-10 despite losing Sam Darnold
Seattle rallied in the fourth quarter to beat New England 13-10, but quarterback Sam Darnold left the game with a hip injury that will keep him out for an unspecified period.
Seattle secured a 13-10 win over New England on opening night after a fourth-quarter comeback, though the Seahawks lost quarterback Sam Darnold to a hip injury early in the game. Darnold was replaced by backup Drew Lock, who guided the offense through a series of drives that culminated in a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a fourth-and-1 play.
The Patriots opened the scoring with a 10-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Eli Raridon. Seattle responded with a field goal by Jason Myers, cutting the deficit to 10-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Seattle tied the game at 10-10 after Smith-Njigba's touchdown. The defense then forced three interceptions in the final quarter, including a game-winning pick by Josh Jobe. A short field goal by Myers later gave Seattle the final margin.
Seattle's secondary, despite missing starters Nick Emmanwori and Ty Okada, recorded the interceptions. The team also dealt with other injuries, including edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who left with a possible concussion.
The Seahawks will have a week off before traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals on September 20.
