Apple introduces Audio Intelligence suite for Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4

Summary

Apple unveiled four new Audio Intelligence features for its latest Watch models, enabling conversation summarization, short-term transcription, music identification and sound alerts, with privacy safeguards and limited availability at launch.

Apple announced a new set of Audio Intelligence capabilities for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The features, powered by Apple Intelligence, use the watch's built-in microphone to capture and process ambient sound for several functions.

Siri Recap creates brief summaries of conversations, generating a title, summary and key points that can be reviewed in the Siri app. Users can opt in, choose when the feature is active and control it from the Control Center.

Live Rewind allows a double-press of the Digital Crown to display a transcription of the previous 15 seconds of dialogue.

The watch also includes Shazam integration, automatically identifying nearby music and showing the song title and artist on the Music Recognition widget.

Sound Recognition provides alerts for specific noises such as sirens, alarms, doorbells or a crying baby, aimed at users who are deaf or hard of hearing, even when an iPhone is not nearby.

Apple said none of the features store audio recordings; raw audio is processed in an isolated Secure Enclave on the S11 chip and deleted immediately. The suite requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, with Live Rewind and Siri Recap limited to iPhone 16 models and later, excluding the iPhone 16e. The features will launch in beta later this year in English, with additional languages planned, but will not be initially available in the EU.
