Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman Appears in Video at Republican Midterm Convention

Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman appeared via a 64-second video at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday evening. In the clip, he introduced Republican Senator Dave McCormick, describing him as “the kind of senator that gets the job done” and saying he was proud to count him as a friend.

Standing in front of an industrial site, Fetterman highlighted the importance of preserving steel jobs in the region, adding that he would work with President Trump to protect the “steel way of life” in the Steel Valley. He stopped short of praising the president, limiting his remarks to a statement of cooperation.

Fetterman repeatedly identified himself as a Democrat, calling himself a “common-sense Democrat” and asserting that he would “always stand with America” while rejecting “extremes, socialism and an anti-American way of life.”

The appearance follows reports that Fetterman has been increasingly at odds with elements of his own party. A recent Wall Street Journal story cited former staffers and lawmakers saying he has spent more time engaging with conservative media and advocating for Israel than focusing on Senate duties. In response, Fetterman told CNN that the story contained “lies, half-truths, innuendos, smears and anonymous” claims and that leaked text messages were taken out of context.

Fetterman, who was elected in 2022 after overcoming a stroke and a public battle with depression, said he would consider leaving the Democratic Party only if it adopted an anti-Israel stance.
