Democratic Senator John Fetterman Appears in Video at Pennsylvania GOP Convention

Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, recorded a video that was shown at the state Republican midterm convention on Wednesday. In the message, he said he was speaking because he considers himself a “common-sense Democrat” and expressed support for President Donald Trump and Sen. Dave McCormick, describing McCormick as a friend who gets the job done. Fetterman highlighted a U.S. Steel mill behind him, stating that the steel industry would benefit from cooperation with the president and the Republican candidate.

McCormick thanked Fetterman for his “friendship” and “courage,” and the audience gave a brief applause as Fetterman introduced the senator on stage. The appearance comes amid reports of a close bipartisan relationship between the two lawmakers, including a joint fundraising committee that has drawn criticism from some Democrats. Former aides to Fetterman said the video was unexpected and questioned its political wisdom, noting that Trump’s approval rating in the state is low.

The video was released less than two months before the midterm elections, a period when both parties are intensifying outreach to swing voters in Pennsylvania.
