LSU President Confirms Roster Decision Excludes Two Former NFL Camp Players
LSU President Wade Rousse wrote to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey confirming that Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris will not be on the football roster for the 2026 season, noting the matter is now resolved.
LSU President Wade Rousse sent a letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey stating that the university will not place former NFL training-camp players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris on its football roster for the 2026 season. The letter, obtained by Front Office Sports, said LSU submitted its final roster on September 4, 2026, and filled the remaining spots with eligible student-athletes on September 8, confirming compliance with SEC rules.
"On the afternoon of September 4, 2026, I called and provided you with advance notice that LSU would not place Dae’Quan Wright or Zxavian Harris on the football roster. This was confirmed when LSU submitted its roster later that evening. On September 8, 2026, LSU filled its two remaining roster spots with eligible student-athletes. The roster is now locked for the season. LSU complied with SEC rules. This issue is moot."
The correspondence also addressed an upcoming special meeting of SEC presidents and chancellors, stating LSU will not seek to disrupt or postpone the gathering.
"Also on September 8, 2026, I received notice of the special President’s and Chancellor’s meeting scheduled for tomorrow, September 10, 2026. At no point has LSU ever threatened to upset the meeting. But to be clear, LSU will not challenge, disrupt or seek to cancel or postpone this meeting. This issue is also moot."
Legal challenges concerning the eligibility of Wright and Harris remain pending, but the university’s letter indicates it considers the roster issue resolved.
