Raiders tight end Brock Bowers to miss at least two games after meniscus procedure
Pro Bowl tight end Brock Bowers will sit out the Raiders' season opener and possibly the following week after undergoing a meniscus trim, with Michael Mayer set to fill his role.
The Las Vegas Raiders announced that tight end Brock Bowers will be unavailable for the season-opening game against the Miami Dolphins following a meniscus trim performed in Dallas on Tuesday, ESPN reported. The procedure is expected to keep him out for one to two games, and he could also miss the Week 2 contest with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. Bowers' first potential appearance may come in Week 3 when the Raiders travel to New Orleans to face the Saints.
Bowers, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, posted 112 receptions for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season, setting a new rookie tight-end receiving-yardage record that had stood since 1961. He also broke the rookie reception record previously held by Puka Nacua. Despite missing five games last season, he recorded seven touchdown catches and earned a second consecutive Pro Bowl nod.
Michael Mayer, the Raiders' 2023 second-round pick, is expected to start in Bowers' stead. Mayer has appeared in 38 NFL games, starting 32 of them, and has compiled 83 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns.
