Malibu mansion driveway collapses, prompting gas shutoff
A driveway at Nicolas Cage's Malibu home gave way, creating a large opening and triggering a temporary natural-gas service interruption for safety.
A driveway at a coastal mansion in Malibu owned by actor Nicolas Cage gave way early Tuesday, creating a sizable opening in front of the residence. The incident caused a natural-gas leak shortly before 6 a.m., leading SoCalGas and local authorities to respond. The utility reported the leak was contained several hours later but temporarily shut off gas service along an 85-foot stretch of the street as a precaution against further erosion.
Cage's representatives did not immediately comment on the event. Property records indicate the home changed hands in 2024, with the previous owner confirming Cage as the buyer at the time of sale.
The property had previously sustained damage during a coastal flooding advisory linked to the remnants of former Hurricane Marie, which produced heavy rain and strong surf along Southern California over the holiday weekend. Malibu officials barred entry to five homes on the affected street, citing safety concerns in the private neighborhood that lies between the ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway.
