Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 sells out, resale prices surge on eBay

Summary

Pre-orders for Nintendo's Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 quickly ran out at major retailers, leading scalpers to list the console and its Pro Controller on eBay for prices well above the $520 MSRP.

After Nintendo announced the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 during a recent Direct, Best Buy stocked the handheld but the inventory sold out within hours. The shortage prompted resellers to list pre-ordered units on eBay at prices ranging from $730 to $900, far above the $519.99 retail price.

Amazon, Target and Nintendo’s own online store have since added the console to their catalogs, but availability remains limited, with many listings showing out-of-stock status. The special edition ships on October 29.

Nintendo also released a matching Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller priced at $99.99. The accessory sold out at Best Buy and is now being auctioned for $170 to $200. An exclusive version with a display stand is offered through the Nintendo Store for $109.99, and its pre-order allotment is already exhausted.

Industry observers note that the situation mirrors the early scarcity of the Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch in 2023, which initially drove resale profits before supply caught up with demand.
