Third Burning Man attendee dies while being taken to hospital, sheriff says
A third participant at Nevada's Burning Man festival died during transport to a Reno-area hospital, according to Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen, who referred the case to Washoe County authorities.
Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen confirmed that a third festivalgoer died while being transported from Black Rock City to a hospital in the Reno area. Allen said his office lacks details because the incident occurred outside its jurisdiction and directed inquiries to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The death follows two other fatalities reported within the past 48 hours. The first involved a man in his mid-50s who was found on a festival street, taken to the temporary Rampart medical facility, and later pronounced dead after CPR attempts. The second was a 60-year-old man discovered deceased in a trailer on Saturday. Both cases showed no external signs of foul play, and autopsies with toxicology tests are pending, with results expected in six to eight weeks.
Sheriff Allen noted that his office typically records about one death per year at the event. Burners and officials have been offered support resources throughout the festival, which ran from Aug. 30 and attracted up to 80,000 participants.
