TSA launches Gateside program allowing ticketless travelers through security

सारांश

The Transportation Security Administration introduced Gateside, a free service that lets TSA PreCheck members and other trusted travelers pass security without an airline ticket at select U.S. airports.

The Transportation Security Administration has introduced a new service called Gateside, permitting trusted travelers to clear security without holding an airline ticket. The program is initially available at 13 airports, including Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles International and Las Vegas Harry Reid, and the agency plans to expand it to additional locations.

Gateside is open to members of TSA PreCheck and other trusted-traveler programs who apply through an online portal. Applicants must submit a request one to three days before their intended visit; approved users receive a digital confirmation that they present, along with identification, to a TSA officer. Passes are free, valid for a single calendar day, and allow re-entry on the same day.

The TSA says the service can be used for activities such as meeting friends or family members, joining a layover companion for a meal, conducting business meetings, or accessing airport dining and retail areas. Children may also be escorted as visitors on a Gateside pass. Availability may be limited during peak travel periods, and visitors are required to follow the same airport code of conduct as ticketed passengers.

"Gateside lets people past security for a variety of reasons," the agency noted in its announcement.

The program mirrors traditional gate passes issued by airlines for specific circumstances, but adds the benefit of expedited PreCheck lanes. The TSA expects to roll out Gateside to more airports in the coming months.
