Mark Seliger photographs 60 Minutes season 59 team at historic Grand Central Oyster Bar

Summary

Renowned photographer Mark Seliger captured the season-59 lineup of 60 Minutes at New York’s Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station, a site linked to CBS’s early broadcast history.

Renowned photographer Mark Seliger photographed the season-59 roster of 60 Minutes on an afternoon at the Oyster Bar inside Grand Central Station. The group included correspondents Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker, Norah O'Donnell, Jon Wertheim and Ross Douthat, as well as contributors Gianna Toboni, Sebastian Junger, Ariel Levy, Sir Trevor Phillips and Matt Gutman.

The location is historically significant for CBS; Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite and Douglas Edwards broadcast from Grand Central when it housed CBS Television Studios from 1939 to 1964, and Murrow recorded early television series above the Oyster Bar.

"We couldn't think of a more iconic place to take this picture—nor a better photographer to capture this singular group," said 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton.

Seliger, known for work with Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, said he aimed to reflect the character of the journalists and the venue’s history in a single frame.

"I wanted the photograph to capture the character of these ten remarkable journalists, both individually and as a group. The Oyster Bar was the perfect destination, infused with its own history and character," Seliger explained.

The portrait will accompany the season premiere on September 13, which will feature an interview with a U.S. Air Force officer involved in a high-profile rescue operation and a profile of the Los Angeles Rams.

The episode airs Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network and streams on Paramount+.
