Attorney Seeks Trump Pardon After Massachusetts Murder Trial Ends in Mistrial

सारांश

Lindsay Clavia's lawyer asked President Trump to consider a pardon following a hung jury in her state murder trial, while prosecutors weigh a possible retrial.

Attorney Kevin Reddington said he hopes to reach a settlement with Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz after the five-week trial of Lindsay Clancy concluded with a mistrial on Sept. 4. Reddington also appealed to President Donald Trump for a pardon, telling "Good Morning America" that the president should consider "what she's been through" and grant clemency.

Clancy, who pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of her three children in Duxbury, Massachusetts, was not convicted, leaving her ineligible for a federal pardon, which applies only to federal offenses. Legal experts noted that any clemency would have to come from state authorities.

President Trump, when asked about the case, described the alleged crime as "horrible" and suggested that Clancy would face either institutionalization or imprisonment after a possible retrial. The White House referred reporters to his earlier remarks.

Cruz, describing the evidence as indicating that Clancy acted with control, said the office would focus on facts rather than emotions and declined to announce an immediate decision on a new trial. Both sides are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29 to discuss next steps.

Reddington expressed frustration with the mistrial, citing a juror’s note that he allegedly did not apply the legal standard of reasonable doubt. Throughout the trial, the defense highlighted postpartum psychosis as a factor, arguing that the condition could affect criminal responsibility under Massachusetts law.
