Rams receiver Puka Nacua says he understands possible NFL discipline ahead of season opener

Summary

Wide receiver Puka Nacua acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding a potential NFL suspension and said he is focusing on his play as the Rams prepare for their season-opening game in Melbourne.

Wide receiver Puka Nacua said he is aware of the possible consequences the NFL could impose for his offseason conduct and is concentrating on what he can control as the Los Angeles Rams ready to travel to Melbourne for their season-opening game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Nacua told reporters after a practice that there is "definitely an emotion" about the situation, but he is trying to handle it and understand the realistic outcomes of his actions. He added that he cannot influence the league’s decision, only how he responds to the uncertainty.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said he has not heard of any suspension for Nacua or teammate Alaric Jackson, and the player has not been placed on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office reviewed misdemeanor battery claims related to an alleged New Year’s Eve incident but opted for a diversion program rather than filing charges.

Nacua, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, denies the allegations, with his attorney stating he "strongly denies" the claims and characterizing a bite mark as consensual horseplay. The attorney also noted that Nacua entered a rehabilitation facility after the incident.

The receiver said he feels "grounded" and grateful when he steps onto the field and expressed relief after returning to full practice following a psoas injury that kept him out for several weeks.

He also mentioned personal ties to Australia, noting that extended family lives there and that he looks forward to connecting with the Polynesian community during the trip.

"I’m looking forward to it," Nacua said of the upcoming flight, adding he plans to sleep through most of the journey.

The Rams will hold their final practice on Tuesday before a 16-hour flight to Australia, and Nacua said he will focus on playing football while awaiting any league decision.
