NFL experts forecast 2026 Super Bowl contenders and MVP race
BBC analysts project the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills as leading teams for the 2026 season, with quarterback Josh Allen and several others highlighted as potential MVP candidates.
BBC NFL analysts offered their predictions for the 2026 season, which begins this week. The consensus points to the Los Angeles Rams as the NFC favorite, with the Buffalo Bills expected to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
"I think the NFC will be another battle between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks," said analyst Rob Staton, adding that he expects the Rams to face the Bills, giving quarterback Josh Allen a chance to reach the championship game.
Analysts also discussed the MVP race. Josh Allen, now under an offensive-minded head coach, is a leading candidate, while others mentioned Justin Herbert of the Chargers, Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.
"If the Bills make the Super Bowl, their quarterback will be the obvious candidate for his second MVP award," noted Joe Bradshaw.
Coaching changes were highlighted as potential factors. Bills head coach Joe Brady, promoted from offensive coordinator, is credited with improving Allen’s prospects, and Sean McVay’s continued leadership of the Rams is seen as a chance for a third Super Bowl title.
"Sean McVay steers the Rams to their third Super Bowl title," wrote Joe Bradshaw.
Other teams mentioned as possible surprise packages include the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Denver Broncos, though several analysts cautioned that injuries and roster turnover could affect outcomes. The discussion also touched on rookie impact players such as wide receiver Carnell Tate (Tennessee) and safety Caleb Downs (Dallas).
