Trump urges ban on Bombardier plane sales, faces opposition from Kansas senator

सारांश

President Donald Trump called for a prohibition on Bombardier aircraft sales in the United States, prompting criticism from Sen. Jerry Moran and a defensive response from the Canadian manufacturer.

President Donald Trump said on Monday that Bombardier, the Canadian aerospace firm, should be barred from selling its planes in the United States, adding that the company’s products are insufficient for the American market. The statement, posted on his social-media platform, also claimed the firm relies on American buyers and infrastructure while Canada allegedly blocks U.S. banks and companies.

Sen. Jerry Moran, a Republican from Kansas where Bombardier’s U.S. headquarters are located, responded on X, noting that the company employs more than a thousand workers in Wichita and contributes to national defense and aerospace capabilities. Moran said he contacted the White House to highlight Bombardier’s economic impact in Kansas and its supply-chain role.

Bombardier issued a statement describing itself as a significant contributor to the American aerospace sector, citing employment in more than 20 states and a supply chain that includes U.S.-made components such as wings produced in Texas and flight-control parts made in California. The company also announced plans to expand its defense activities and open a new facility in Indiana later this year.

The dispute occurs amid ongoing trade tensions between the United States and Canada, where the administration has imposed additional tariffs on Canadian goods and taken other measures affecting bilateral relations.
