Trump demands Bombardier manufacture in U.S. to retain market access

सारांश

President Donald Trump said Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier must produce its planes in the United States to continue selling there, as both countries prepare to implement new tariffs.

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Bombardier, the Canadian aerospace company, would have to build its aircraft in the United States if it wants to keep selling them in the American market. The statement was posted on his Truth Social platform, where he wrote that the company must stop "treating America like a piggybank" and produce locally.

The comment comes amid an escalating trade dispute between the United States and Canada. Ottawa has scheduled retaliatory tariffs on more than 700 U.S. products, covering roughly $20 billion in trade, to take effect on Tuesday. The measures are intended to mirror recent U.S. duties of up to 50 percent on Canadian wine, cement, hockey sticks and other items.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told CNBC that Canada had "blown up" a nearly finished trade agreement for political reasons. Justin Trudeau responded that Canada would resume negotiations when the United States is ready.
