UNC Coach Belichick Says Football Program Is Fully Compliant Amid Investigation

Resumen

UNC head football coach Bill Belichick told reporters his program complies with regulations and declined to comment on an ongoing internal investigation, while the team prepares for its home opener.

Bill Belichick told a weekly press conference at the Kenan Football Center that his football program is "totally" compliant with university rules, refusing to discuss details of an internal investigation that has drawn media attention. The coach said he expected continued questioning but could not provide further information.

The investigation, reported by WRAL, concerns alleged drug use and inappropriate relationships involving staff, coaches and players. It follows the resignation of former general manager Michael Lombardi, who had been placed on paid leave in late July. Program spokesperson Brandon Faber opened the briefing, after which Belichick addressed football matters for about 13 minutes before fielding questions about the probe.

When asked about his son and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, who has been on medical leave since early August and is named in the investigation, Bill Belichick said the younger Belichick remains on medical leave and gave no timeline for his return. The coach also said he has not discussed his own job security with university officials and has spoken honestly with his team about the situation. He emphasized his focus on preparing the Tar Heels for their upcoming home game against East Tennessee State.

UNC entered the season with a 1-0 record after a win over TCU in Ireland on Aug. 29 and will host ETSU on Saturday at noon.
