Apple to unveil first foldable iPhone and new hardware lineup on Wednesday

Résumé

Apple plans to introduce its inaugural foldable iPhone and updated iPhone 18 series, along with refreshed wearables and home devices, at its upcoming product event.

Apple is set to launch its first foldable iPhone at its annual product showcase on Wednesday, alongside new high-end iPhone 18 models and updates to its home and wearable devices. The foldable device, rumored to be called “iPhone Ultra” or “iPhone fold,” is expected to fold to a size comparable to a passport and expand to a display with a roughly 4:3 aspect ratio.

The announcement comes shortly after John Ternus assumed the role of CEO, succeeding Tim Cook. Ternus, who previously led Apple’s hardware division, inherits a company that is evaluating its artificial-intelligence strategy and seeking another breakout hardware success following the Vision Pro headset launch.

Analysts also anticipate a new home hub featuring a display and smart-speaker functions, as well as updates to Apple TV and HomePod mini that will incorporate revised AI-powered Siri hardware. Wearable refreshes are expected, including new AirPods and Apple Watch models such as the Series 12 and Ultra 4, with chip upgrades aimed at expanding fitness capabilities.

The event should also reveal the final versions of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27, with the foldable iPhone running a customized iteration of iOS 27. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are reported to feature Apple’s new A20 processor, camera improvements, changes to Dynamic Island and additional color options, while the standard iPhone 18 and a successor to the iPhone Air are slated for a later release.

Pricing details remain uncertain, but analysts note that Apple previously held iPhone prices steady while raising costs for other product lines amid component shortages, suggesting the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series may see higher prices.
