Amazon cargo Boeing 767 overruns Miami runway, hits vehicles

सारांश

A Boeing 767 operating for Amazon's Prime Air overran a runway at Miami International Airport, striking several vehicles and igniting a fire; authorities are investigating the incident.

A Boeing 767 cargo plane operating for Amazon's Prime Air overshot the end of runway 30 at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, breaching the runway safety area and colliding with multiple vehicles on a nearby road. The aircraft, identified as 21 Air Flight 7598, was en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and landed on the 9,000-foot runway before departing the pavement.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that the plane caught fire, producing heavy flames and smoke, and more than 60 fire units responded to extinguish the blaze and assess any injuries. No injuries have been confirmed at the time of reporting.

"This is a fast-moving situation and we’re still gathering details," Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel told CNN, adding that the company is cooperating with local authorities and supporting those affected.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have opened investigations, and all runways at the airport have been closed with a ground stop in effect. Preliminary review of air-traffic control audio showed the pilots did not declare an emergency before landing, and inspection crews found no aircraft debris on the runway, though the plane damaged navigational equipment after leaving the pavement.

21 Air, a Miami-based cargo carrier that operates flights for Amazon and DHL, has not yet commented. Runway excursions are the most common type of aircraft incident worldwide, according to the International Air Transport Association.
