Indie Developers Adjust Release Dates Amid 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' Launch

Summary

Several indie game developers have postponed their release dates to avoid coinciding with the highly anticipated launch of 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' on September 4, 2025.

The upcoming release of 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' on September 4, 2025, has prompted several indie game developers to reschedule their launch dates to avoid direct competition.

'Demonschool,' a tactical RPG by Necrosoft Games, has been delayed to November 19, 2025. Publisher Ysbryd Games stated, 'The Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red.'

Similarly, 'Baby Steps,' a walking simulator developed by Devolver Digital, has moved its release from September 8 to September 23, 2025. The decision was humorously depicted in a trailer where the game's protagonist encounters Hornet, the main character of 'Silksong,' leading to the delay.

Other titles adjusting their schedules include 'CloverPit,' a roguelike by Panik Arcade, now set for September 26, 2025, and 'Little Witch in the Woods' by Sunny Side Up, whose full release has been postponed to September 15, 2025. The developers expressed concerns about launching alongside 'Silksong,' fearing it would overshadow their games.

In contrast, some developers are maintaining their original release dates. 'Hirogami,' a 3D platformer by Kakehashi Games, is set to launch on September 3, 2025, just one day before 'Silksong.' The developers stated, 'We refuse to fold,' expressing confidence in their game's unique appeal.

The anticipation surrounding 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' has significantly influenced the indie gaming landscape, with developers strategically planning their releases to navigate the competitive market.
