Indiana opened its 2026 football season with a 52-16 victory over North Texas at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. The Hoosiers scored seven touchdowns, four through the air and three on the ground, while limiting the visiting Mean Green to 16 points despite more than 350 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Josh Hoover completed 7 of 8 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns. He connected with receivers Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh for multiple scores, and his first-year teammate Turbo Richard added a rushing touchdown. Freshman running back Turbo Richard also contributed 43 rushing yards and a short-yard touchdown.

Defensive back Quan Sanks recorded an interception that set up a quick touchdown, and the secondary forced several key stops in the second half. Indiana’s special teams returned two kickoffs beyond the 50-yard line, providing favorable field position.

The game was played under extreme heat, with on-field temperature readings reported as high as 152 degrees Fahrenheit. The conditions led to increased player rotation and a few penalties, but the Hoosiers maintained control throughout.

Coach Curt Cignetti praised the team’s effort, noting that the performance was solid for a first game under his leadership. Defensive coordinator Bryant Haines, a recent Broyles Award winner, highlighted the defense’s ability to tighten up in the latter stages of the contest.

The win improves Indiana’s record to 1-0 as the team looks ahead to its next matchup against Howard.
