सारांश

'Spider-Noir' will not return for a second season despite earning 11 Emmy nominations and strong viewer metrics, while Amazon continues to develop additional series under its Sony Marvel partnership.

Amazon Prime Video announced that the eight-episode series "Spider-Noir" will not be renewed for a second season. The show, starring Nicolas Cage in his first regular television role, concluded its run after the initial season.

The cancellation comes as the series entered the Emmy awards weekend with 11 nominations, the most for any Prime Video program this year. "Spider-Noir" holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% audience score on the platform's "popcornmeter."

The series was the first Marvel-related title produced under Amazon’s agreement with Sony Pictures Television to develop characters from the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, which includes over 900 Spider-Man-related properties. A second series from the partnership is reportedly in development and will be announced soon.

Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir, the show is set during the Great Depression and follows Ben Reilly, a private investigator portrayed by Cage, who confronts his past after a personal tragedy. The cast also includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. Showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as executive producers alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and others. Harry Bradbeer directed and executive produced the first two episodes.

"Spider-Noir" premiered on MGM+ on May 25 before streaming on Prime Video the following day, offering viewers the option to watch in color or black-and-white. Nielsen reported 2.6 billion streaming minutes in the first six weeks. Among its Emmy nominations were categories for production design, title design, sound mixing, sound editing, cinematography, stunt performance, music composition, visual effects, prosthetic makeup and original music and lyrics.

The Amazon-Sony deal initially greenlit a series titled "Silk: Spider Society," which was later cancelled, making "Spider-Noir" the first release under the arrangement. Sony continues to produce live-action Spider-Man films and collaborates with Marvel Studios on the franchise starring Tom Holland, with recent box-office earnings exceeding $2.3 billion worldwide.
