Prime Video cancels Spider-Noir after one season

Résumé

Amazon's Prime Video announced that the superhero series Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage will not return for a second season, while the broader Amazon-Sony TV partnership continues to develop new projects.

Prime Video said it will not order a second season of the superhero drama Spider-Noir, which starred Nicolas Cage as private investigator Ben Reilly. The series was the first to launch under a multi-title agreement between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television that draws on Sony’s Marvel-character catalog. Although the show will end, the two companies said they are still developing several other projects, with one reportedly close to receiving a series order. All titles from the deal debut on Amazon’s MGM+ channel before moving to Prime Video.

Spider-Noir received strong critical and audience reactions, earning a 92% critics score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving 11 Emmy nominations, the most for any Prime Video series in 2026. Nielsen data showed the series debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. Top 10 for original series, accumulating 851 million minutes viewed in its first week and 2.6 billion minutes over the first six weeks. However, the show fell out of the daily Top 10 rankings more quickly than recent Prime Video releases such as Off Campus, Reacher and Ride Or Die.

Industry analysts noted that the series’ high production costs, including filming in both color and black-and-white formats, likely weighed against its viewership performance in the renewal decision. The first season concluded most of its storyline, leaving only a few unresolved plot points.

The series, based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, featured a supporting cast that included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as co-showrunners and executive producers, working with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal, who also held executive-producer credits. Harry Bradbeer directed and executive-produced the opening episodes.
