Illinois mother charged with three counts of first-degree murder after toddler's death

Resumen

Corie Walsh, 38, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her 2-year-old son died following a 911 call by a neighbor in Frankfort, Illinois.

Police in Frankfort, Illinois, arrested 38-year-old Corie Walsh on three counts of first-degree murder after a 2-year-old child was found unresponsive in a home on Brook Stone Court on Tuesday afternoon. A 17-year-old neighbor called 911 for help, and officers arrived to see the toddler receiving CPR before being transported to a local hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said Walsh was discovered in a bathroom harming herself and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. A second infant in the home was not injured, and two other children arrived from school shortly after police arrived. Their father was out of state at the time.

Prosecutors noted that Walsh had participated in a group text discussing a high-profile murder case earlier that day and allegedly claimed she killed her son because he was “the devil and Antichrist.” The Will County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy, determining the death to be an apparent homicide pending toxicology results and further investigation. The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services, which had no prior contact with the family, is now involved in the case. Walsh remains in custody, with her first court appearance set for Sept. 8.
