Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" Surpasses $1 Billion in International Box Office

Resumen

"The Odyssey" has earned over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the 17th film to reach that mark and the first non-sequel, non-remake since 2009 to do so.

Christopher Nolan’s science-fiction epic "The Odyssey" has crossed the $1 billion threshold in international markets, bringing its worldwide total to about $1.59 billion. The film is the 17th title to achieve the milestone and the first original Hollywood production—not a sequel or remake—to do so since "Avatar" in 2009.

Universal Pictures International reported that the movie has earned $1.014 billion in overseas territories to date, with its ten biggest markets being the United Kingdom and Ireland ($109.2 million), China ($92.7 million), France ($84.6 million), South Korea ($74 million), Italy ($63.2 million), Germany ($57.5 million), Australia ($43 million), Spain ($41 million), Mexico ($37.3 million) and India ($23.5 million).

"From its record-breaking opening to this historic milestone, The Odyssey has captivated audiences around the world," said Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of distribution for Universal Pictures International.

The film opened with a global debut of $264.1 million, the strongest start for a Nolan movie, and posted an international opening of $139.6 million, surpassing previous Nolan releases in comparable markets. It set opening-day records in 52 territories and became the highest-grossing Nolan title in 75 markets.

In addition, "The Odyssey" has become the top-grossing IMAX release, with more than $457 million earned worldwide, prompting IMAX to extend its 70 mm run in 70 theaters through the end of the month.
