Apple's foldable iPhone production limited to a few hundred units daily, Nikkei reports

Summary

Apple is currently manufacturing only a few hundred foldable iPhone Ultra units per day, as quality checks slow the ramp-up, raising concerns about meeting demand.

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra is being produced at a rate of only a few hundred units per day, according to supply-chain sources cited by Nikkei Asia. The output, reported for late August, reflects a slow ramp-up as the company conducts additional verification of surface flatness and hinge performance to ensure manufacturing yields meet its standards.

A supply-chain manager said the initial volume may struggle to satisfy market demand, noting that earlier trials at Foxconn had resolved hinge and display durability issues and led Apple to raise its order to roughly 10 million units for the year. However, the latest verification process has delayed commercial production by several weeks, prompting Apple and its suppliers to work around the clock to avoid stock shortages at distribution centers.

The device is slated for unveiling alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at Apple’s September 9 event.
