Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez to plead guilty in Indianapolis stabbing case

摘要

Mark Sanchez has agreed to enter a guilty plea for charges stemming from an October 2025 altercation in Indianapolis, pending judicial approval.

Mark Sanchez has reached a plea agreement in a case arising from an October 2025 physical altercation in downtown Indianapolis, according to court filings. The state and Sanchez’s attorneys submitted a joint motion to Marion County Superior Court requesting that the scheduled September 8 jury trial be vacated and that the case proceed to a guilty plea and sentencing hearing. The specific charges to which Sanchez will plead guilty have not been disclosed, and a judge must still accept the plea.

Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback and former Fox Sports analyst, faced charges of battery causing serious injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. He was in Indianapolis to call a Raiders-Colts game on Oct. 5 when he became involved in a fight with Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver who was collecting used cooking oil in a back alley between two hotels. Sanchez was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, while Tole sustained deep facial cuts.

"Tole said he stabbed Sanchez in self-defense, and he was not charged," the police report noted.

Sanchez has said he does not recall the incident. The trial had been postponed five times before the plea deal was reached. Tole has filed a civil lawsuit against Sanchez, Fox and the owner of St. Elmo’s.
