Bunnie Xo describes health struggles and resilience after divorce from Jelly Roll

Summary

The author and podcaster said she survived on baby food and required IVs following her split, and she aims to emerge stronger.

During an appearance on the Open Book podcast, author and podcaster Bunnie Xo, 46, discussed the personal toll of her divorce from rapper Jelly Roll earlier this year. She said she lost about 20 pounds and at times needed assistance from her team, including IVs, because she was subsisting on baby food.

"Heartbreak, man, it's the best freaking diet," Xo said.

The couple married after dating since 2016, and Jelly Roll filed for divorce in May, finalizing it two months later. Xo, whose legal name is Alisa DeFord, said she hopes the experience will make her stronger and wants to demonstrate resilience to her audience.

"When life hands you lemons, make freaking lemonade slushies. Let's do this," she added, noting she will not publicly display her grief on social media as she did in a 2018 video.

She described divorce as a "very devastating situation" that affects families and expressed a desire to move forward.

Jelly Roll, real name Jason DeFord, addressed the split at a concert, stating the two remain best friends and emphasizing there was no infidelity.

"Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends," he said, adding, "Bunnie, I love you, baby. Thank you for those 10 years. They were incredible. Thank you for the next 10 years of friendship and 20 beyond that."
