Ford targets 100,000 sales of new Fathom electric truck in first year

Resumen

Ford aims to sell 100,000 units of its upcoming sub-$30,000 Fathom electric pickup during its initial model year, a volume that would place it among the top-selling EVs in the United States.

Ford Motor Co. has set an internal target of 100,000 deliveries of its forthcoming Fathom electric pickup in the model’s first year of sales, according to sources familiar with the plan. If achieved, the volume would rank the Fathom alongside the best-selling electric vehicles in the United States and make it the highest-selling non-Tesla EV in a single year.

The Fathom, slated for production in the first quarter of 2027, is expected to start at just under $30,000 and will feature a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port compatible with Tesla Supercharger networks. The company has been developing the truck for several years, including the establishment of a dedicated “skunkworks” facility to explore new manufacturing methods.

Ford previously offered the Lightning electric pickup, which fell short of its sales expectations due in part to a higher launch price. The automaker says lessons learned from that experience have informed its pricing and cost-control strategy for the Fathom.

Industry observers note that a 100,000-unit first-year sales figure would surpass all non-Tesla models historically, positioning the Fathom as a direct competitor to low-priced EVs such as the Chevrolet Bolt and potentially affecting the market outlook for upcoming affordable trucks.
