General manager Nolan Teasley affirmed that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy remains on the Minnesota Vikings' roster and will focus on his development behind starters Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.

Minnesota general manager Nolan Teasley told reporters the team will keep rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy on its roster while emphasizing the young player’s ongoing development. "J.J. McCarthy’s role is to continue to develop, to improve and to support his teammates," Teasley said at a press conference, adding that McCarthy has performed well since joining the organization.

When asked whether McCarthy would be on the active roster for Week 1, Teasley responded affirmatively, though he did not elaborate on his exact depth-chart position. McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 draft, is projected to serve as the third-string quarterback behind starter Kyler Murray and veteran Carson Wentz.

The Michigan product missed his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee and appeared in only 10 games the following year because of a high-ankle sprain and a concussion. He suffered another ankle injury in the preseason but returned to practice this week, Teasley confirmed.

"He’s really talented," Teasley said, noting McCarthy’s first-round selection was based on his strong arm and athleticism. "He has a lot of room to grow in our system," the GM added.
